Cologne and perfume are on the rise to be increasingly used more and more by today’s consumers. With the growing demand, the aim to make the fragrance a unique feature for a certain brand or location has been developed. One of the basic differences between a perfume and cologne is in their strength. While both perfume and cologne are made of denature ethyl alcohol and other essential oils. Perfume or eau de parfum contains between fifteen and twenty-two percent essential oils where as eau de cologne or simply cologne contains only two to four percent essential oils.

Perfumes and colognes are the best way to combat the bad odor but the major differences between a perfume and cologne are that perfume’s fragrance is stronger, and will remain fresh till longer duration, so that it should be applied much more meagerly than cologne, which can be splashed on. Greater the amount of the essential oils and concentration of aromatic compounds in a perfume and cologne, the more expensive they will become.

As both perfume and cologne have such high alcohol contents, so they should be stored out in a cool and dark place to prevent them from evaporating or undergoing a change of color and fragrance. Although many of the consumers often keep their perfume and cologne in their bathrooms and bedrooms, but the best place, if not the most convenient, to store perfume and cologne to maximize their lives is in the refrigerator.

Perfume and cologne are a kind of life’s little pleasures, and knowing how to care for them so that they will perform as meant from them. But there are a lot of individuals who have allergies to irritants and allergens in the air such as winter chimney smoke, second hand smoke, dust mites, animal dander, and parts of roaches. They can have an allergic reaction at any time when they come in contact with these allergens contained in such perfumes and colognes.

So it becomes compulsory to understand the difference between cologne and perfume and choose the one which only fits your selection criteria. Many types of public gathering such as school, where different children with different body style come face one or other kind of allergy. One who has asthma can have serious problems with the students who are wearing perfumes and colognes of different styles.

Different types of chemicals such as acetone, linalool, ethanol and ethyl acetate have all been found in little amounts in certain brands of Perfumes and Colognes. So before choosing any of the brand and fragrance you need to do a study of the difference between cologne and perfumes. It is important to check out what fragrance your family members are wearing because of all the imitations that could arise through allergy.
